The Wexford Senior hurlers have been handed a major boost…
Keith Rossiter’s Wexford Senior hurling side were dealt some major blows at the start of the season with the loss of some key starting players. They included Eoin Ryan and Charlie McGuckin initially, followed by Cathal Dunbar, Conor McDonald, and Rory O’Connor.
It had then emerged that full-back Liam Ryan had not rejoined the panel for the 2026 season either, due to an extended break and honeymoon with his partner.
However, it has since been confirmed by manager Keith Rossiter that the Rapparees clubman is set to rejoin the panel. Rossiter, who confirmed the news to the Irish Independent this week, was outspoken last week when stating that he hopes the call he makes to Jippo would be a favourable one as there’s no doubt he still has a lot to offer the Model County.
The Wexford hurlers are three from three in the Allianz Hurling League and they face Dublin this weekend in Croke Park.
The Wexford hurlers are in a period of transition at the moment. With Liam Ryan back within the ranks, that transition has become easier — with the Rapparees clubman bringing a vast amount of experience and leadership, with over 100 appearances for Wexford.
Alongside Ryan, Jack O’Connor is also involved around the set-up, however, injury is ruling him out of playing. Meanwhile, Simon Donohe and Lee Chin enjoyed vital minutes last week against Carlow, bringing more experience to the youthful side.
It’s unlikely that Ryan will be playing over the next few weeks in the Allianz League and not until he builds up his match-day fitness. The Enniscorthy native, who struggled with injuries last year, will hope to remain injury free as he sets his sights on a return to Wexford’s championship team.
Wexford’s first match in the Leinster Championship will take place against Kildare on April 18th, with a clash against Kilkenny the following weekend on April 24th.
