Wexford Waterford Education and Training Board (WWETB) are through to the Leinster Football Final after an outstanding run that began late last year and has gathered momentum with every round…
The team, made up of employees from across WWETB schools and centres throughout Wexford and Waterford, now prepare for a final showdown with Dublin Fire Brigade.
The journey to the decider started back in November when WWETB opened their campaign with strong performances against Boston Scientific Clonmel and Tipperary ETB. The sides met again in the South East League Final, where WWETB produced a fine display to secure victory and lift the title. That win provided the perfect platform heading into the Leinster Championship.
In the provincial series, WWETB first faced Kerry Group’s Kildare branch in the quarter-final and came through a competitive contest to advance. They followed that up with another impressive performance in the semi-final, defeating the Mountjoy Prison Officers to book their place in the Leinster Final.
The team is managed by Dean O’Connor (Oulart-the-Ballagh/Coláiste Abbáin), with a strong management group alongside him that includes Gary Conroy (Oylegate/Coláiste Abbáin), Ben Cowman (Ferns St. Aidan’s/Creagh College) and Pat McGrath (Horeswood/Kennedy College). Their work has been central to the team’s success and consistency throughout the campaign.
The panel features players representing clubs from across the region. Among those involved are Aodhán Foley (Shellmaliers), David Shore (Davidstown), Conor Scallan and Rory Scallan (Ferns), Tony Ryan (Ballyhogue), Peter Rowley (Oylegate), Danny Dixon (Castletown), James Kenny (Naomh Éanna), David Larkin (Horeswood), and Alan Walsh (St. James).
Also on the squad are Mark Murtagh (Dunlavin), joint captains John Tubritt (Fethard) and Keith O’Hara (Bunclody), Martin Storey (Oulart), Paudie Foley (Crossabeg), Mossy Murphy (Blackwater), Shane O’Hanlon and Adam Harris (Horeswood), Ben Kidd (Starlights), Shane Murphy (St. Fintan’s), Jason Kirwan (Oulart), Jake O’Dwyer (Carrickshock), and Shane O’Gorman (Adamstown).

The Leinster Football Final between WWETB and Dublin Fire Brigade will take place in HWH Bunclody on Thursday, February 26th at 9pm. A strong local turnout is expected as the side look to cap a superb season by bringing the Leinster title back to the south east.
There is further excitement ahead for WWETB, who will also contest the Leinster Senior Hurling Final in the coming weeks, where they are set to face either Tirlán or Bannagher Concrete.
For now, however, all focus turns to Thursday night as the WWETB footballers aim to finish their excellent campaign in style.
