The Wexford Senior hurling team were out in action against Clare on Sunday…
Wexford suffered a three-point defeat in Ennis, meaning that promotion is now out of their hands — with Clare and Dublin set to return to the top table of the Allianz Hurling League for 2027.
Speaking to TG4 after the game, Wexford Senior hurling manager Keith Rossiter provided an honest reflection and pinpointed where it went wrong against the Banner County:
“We were flat. I wouldn’t be happy with that and we need to look at it…. We gave the ball away way too easily. We addressed it at half-time, but still made mistakes. We got back into it, we could have got two or three points — but we gave away a score. We had possession, but we coughed it up too easily. It’s not good enough at this level. I wouldn’t be happy about it and the lads won’t be happy about it,” he said.
“I’m putting it down to flatness… a lack of agression. We were second to the ball, giving away the ball. It was a matter of being in possession, working it out nicely, but then take a pass too many or let it fumble, turned over and then they’ve a score on the board. We conceded about 6 or 7 points that way. There’s loads for us to work on; we’ve 6 weeks to get ready for Championship,” Rossiter told TG4.
“Overall, we’re disappointed on our side.”
The Wexford Senior hurling manager also noted that Division 1B is still competitive and that it’s probably not a bad thing considering the new young panel that Wexford have emerging within their ranks.
Wexford will take on Kildare in the final round of the Allianz Hurling League. They will meet the same opponents in the opening round of the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship.
