The Wexford Senior footballers will be out in action this weekend…
The Wexford Senior footballers will take on Westmeath this Sunday in a crunch promotion decider. It’s a winner-takes-all match with the winner of the decider promoted into Division 2 of the Allianz Football League along with a place in the Division 3 League final.
The match takes place on Sunday, March 22nd at Wexford Park — and a large crowd from Wexford is expected to show up to cheer on the Yellowbellies in one of their biggest fixtures in quite some time.
Westmeath boss and former Donegal player, Mark McHugh, identified the major threat that Wexford carry and he will be hoping that his team stops that this weekend:
Speaking to radio station Midlands103, the Westmeath football manager said:
“Wexford have been quite no. 1 there for their two point shooters and two point scores over the course of the league. You know, they’ve been phenomenal at it. Like, I think in the last three games alone, they’ve kicked 17 or 18, which is more than any other team in Ireland, like you know. 40% of their score, actually, from two pointers. It’ll be on us to be able to try to minimize that as best we can,” he said.
“And then we have to just focus on ourselves and how we can attack and how we can defend — that primary possession around the middle of the park — and whoever wants it most, will probably win the game,” he concluded.
Throw-in for the clash will be at 2pm in Wexford Park on Sunday March 22nd. Adult tickets for the clash cost just €12 while u16s have free entry.
