Bus Eireann will cancel a key Wexford bus route next month…
Bus Éireann has announced that it will withdraw its Expressway Route 40 service between Rosslare, Wexford, and Waterford on May 24, 2026, due to ongoing financial losses.
The Rosslare/Wexford to Waterford Expressway Route 40 had operated seveal times daily.
Until May 23, the route will continue operating several times daily, connecting Wexford (including O’Hanrahan Station on Trinity Street) with Waterford and providing an important transport link across the South East.
Passengers can use the service as normal in the coming weeks but are advised to check the Bus Éireann website for updates, particularly if they have pre-booked travel.
All services will cease on Sunday, May 24, 2026, and customers with bookings beyond that date will receive full refunds. After the withdrawal, passengers will need to seek alternative transport options, such as other bus services, rail connections, or private travel.
Bus Eireann released the following statement:
“While disappointing, it is clearly unsustainable for a commercial operation. The decision to consolidate our Expressway network and withdraw from a small number of routes is aimed at safeguarding the Expressway network. Given the scale of our operations, there will be no impact on jobs given our current recruitment needs.”
“Any customer who has a prebooked journey on any of the impacted services will be contacted and provided with a full refund,” the statement concluded.
