The Wexford Senior hurlers will travel to Nowlan Park this weekend to take on neighbours Kilkenny in a derby clash…
It’s Round 2 of the Leinster Senior hurling championship; Kilkenny lost out to Galway last weekend, while Wexford defeated Kildare; it prompted Kilkenny attacker Mossy Keoghan to state to The Irish Sun that this clash against Wexford is a “season defining one” for the Cats, despite it being so early into the Championship.
Likewise, after Wexford’s win over Kildare in Newbridge, a win over Kilkenny this weekend would provide them with an excellent opportunity to reach the Leinster final for the first time since 2019. Other clashes against Dublin, Offaly, and Galway are still to come, but it seems like the 2026 Leinster SHC is as open as ever.
It’s always an excellent and fair clash between the two sides. Despite Wexford’s ability to get over the line against Kilkenny in recent years, Kilkenny have won all the Leinster Senior hurling titles since Wexford last won it in 2019.
It’s a huge clash this weekend for both sides. But it has been reported in the Wexford People that manager Keith Rossiter will have to prepare without a key forward.
Fethard-St Mogues clubman, Cian Byrne, has been ruled out of the upcoming clash against Kilkenny through injury.
The young Wexford sharp-shooter has been ruled out after picking up a hamstring injury.
The Wexford man did not feature in last week’s clash against Kildare either. The starting forwards for Wexford against the Lillywhites were: Ross Banville, Lee Chin, Jack O’Connor, Kevin Foley, Jack Redmond, and Simon Roche.
Wexford do not have any other injury scares heading into the Kilkenny clash; in fact, the likes of Liam Ryan, Simon Donohoe, and Darren Codd could all feature too — highlighting the healthy competition for places in the team at the moment.
