Three young Wexford boxers were crowned National U-19 champions at the National Stadium in Dublin on Friday night, adding another major achievement to what has already been a hugely successful period for boxing in the county…
Kalib Walshe of Wexford CBS produced a dominant display in the 60kg final, defeating Christian Doyle of Team Doyle on a unanimous 5-0 decision to claim the national title.
Meanwhile, Kayleigh Byrne of Gorey Boxing Club was crowned champion in the 51kg division after receiving a walkover in the final. A “walkover was not the way we wanted to get it, but she put in a super camp and was ready for allcomers” to claim her 6th national title as she prepares for the 4 Nations in Scotland next month.

Lastly, in the 80kg division, Blake Dunne (Rosslare Boxing Club) beat Rati Abuladze (Togher) by a unanimous decision, 5-0, to claim national success.
All three boxers have already built impressive reputations on the Irish boxing scene. Walshe is a multiple-time national champion and has represented Ireland at underage international level, while Byrne, who now also has multiple national titles to her name, added to her growing list of achievements after previously claiming a European silver medal. For Blake Dunne, it’s his second time winning the national title, with his coaches saying that it was “well deserved” after a “perfectly executed fight” in the ring.

The treble success is another significant boost for Wexford boxing, with all three clubs continuing to produce elite young talent capable of competing at the highest national and international levels.
