A new face has emeged as the front-runner for the vacant Wexford Senior hurling managerial position…
A new report on The Irish Mirror from Wexford journalist, Brendan Furlong, has stated that Waterford man, Derek McGrath, has emerged as the new front-runner for the role. It is reported that McGrath is “now looked upon as the most serious contender.”
McGrath, who is a former boss with Waterford, is no stranger to Wexford hurling. He was part of the management set up with the Faythe Harriers for two seasons.
From that experience on the sidelines, McGrath would know a lot of the top players around Wexford hurling circles.
McGrath guided Waterford to an All-Ireland final when he was in charge of the Deise from 2013 to 2018, however, they lost out by three point to Galway.
There are multiple other options that Wexford may consider heading into the new season following Keith Rossiter’s departure.
Both Waterford and Kilkenny are also on the look-out for new managers ahead of the new season after both Peter Queally’s and Derek Lyng’s departures.
The Wexford Senior Hurling Club championships are set to return next Friday, 26 June. It is hoped across the County that a new manager will be in place at the start of the new championship, giving the individual ample opportunity to look at new players.
