A Wexford School Has Won The National ‘Junk Kouture’ Competition

There must be something in the water in Wexford…

Not only did a Wexford person win last night’s lotto, but a Wexford school has now won the national ‘Junk Kouture’ competition.

The 2021 ‘Junk Kouture’ grand finale took place on RTÉ tonight and a number of Wexford schools were involved in the final of the national competition, which has now been running since 2010.

A Wexford school, Coláiste Bríde in Enniscorthy, first claimed top prize for the South-East region of Junk Kouture. Soon after though, it was announced that the Enniscorthy school would be crowned national champions with their design, ‘Iconoclastic Fantastic’.

Junk Kouture is a platform that allows creative students to shine. Everything created and visible on the platform is fashioned and crafted by creatives between 13-18 years old, out of nothing but recycled materials.

Coláiste Bride student and German Erasmus student, Alicia Rostermund, won this year’s competition with a gender-neutral design.

It’s an amazing victory for the Wexford school to win a national trophy such as this, one which is placed in very high regard across schools and by young people.

Some other Wexford schools including Gorey Community School, Creagh College, and Presentation College Wexford also had finalists in tonight’s ‘Grand finale’ competition, which was down to its final 40 contestants this evening, but in the end, it was Coláiste Bríde who were crowned victorious.

Although the Enniscorthy school did take home the illustrious national award, the Presentation College in Wexford also walked away with a trophy for the cabinet. A team which consisted of Presentation Wexford students including Dara Kelly, Leah Cassidy, and Rachel Furlong received a ‘Glamour award’ with their design, “Got Milk!”
