Popular Wexford Pub Decides Not To Open Over The Festive Period

The latest Covid-19 restrictions have been a blow to the hospitality industry…

Both pubs and restaurants are now required to close at 8pm.

This has impacted pubs and restaurants across the country. One pub that has decided against opening is the popular Gaynor’s Pub in Wexford town.

Earlier in the year, Gaynor’s Pub was rated in Wexford Weekly’s public poll as one of the best pubs in Wexford, but people will not be able to enjoy the drinks or the social scene in there over the Christmas period.

Whereas a lot of pubs released their new opening hours in line with the new Covid-19 restrictions, Gaynor’s pub did not follow suit.

Instead, they’ll be closing their premises over the Festive period. Christmas time is the most busiest time of the year for pubs, and it’s clear that many in the hospitality will fell the brunt of the new Covid-19 restrictions. Not only have they opted to close for the Festive season, but they will not be reopening until February at the earliest.

In a statement released yesterday, owners Annette and John Gaynor said:

Due to the latest trading restriction of last orders 7.30pm, out by 8pm, we have made the sad decision to CLOSE from today until the end of January.”

“John and myself would like to thank you for your much appreciated custom, especially over the last 6 months. We deeply regret that we are unable to open in the run up to Christmas and over the festive period.”

We wish you all a wonderful Christmas with your families and friends and look forward to seeing you here again in February. Let’s hope next year will be better for us all,” it reads.

This news will be disappointing for many people who view the pubs as a more than a drinking ground. A lot of people view pubs as a social outlet, especially at Christmas time.
