Divided Online Reaction Following Release Of New Wexford FC Crest

It is a beauty to behold, when you see the purple and gold…

The purple and gold colours are synonymous with Wexford. Over the last number of years, however, Wexford FC have worn colours such as pink, black, and navy.

It was announced this evening that Wexford FC will be proudly wearing a purple and gold strip next season as the football club builds towards a new era.

Speaking on the decision to change their kit colours, the club said:

“We are thrilled to reveal our new crest to our fans, and our new look for this new era of Wexford Football Club.

Our new colour scheme of purple and gold harks back to the great sporting patrons of the 17th and 18th centuries, such as the Colcloughs of Tintern Abbey, the Carews of Castleboro and the Devereuxes of Carrigmannon.”

In line with the announcement, the club have also redesigned their club crest.

“Our new crest incorporates all that makes our club and home county great.
The club crest features three pikes, which nod to the 1798 Rebellion, and combine to form a W,” Wexford FC stated.

There has been split opinion following the release of the new crest. Some have stated that it’s too basic and it’s like something from FIFA. On the other hand, other users commented on its minimalistic features, it’s touch to Wexford history with the three pikes, and also the colour tone and how it connects with the people of Wexford.
