Wexford’s Dean Walsh flies out to Poland for Olympic qualifier

Wexford’s Dean Walsh flew out to Poland on Tuesday…

The Wexford man is part of Team Ireland’s selection to represent Ireland at the European games which acts as a qualifier for the Olympic games.

Walsh will be competing at 71kg. The Wexford man is a five-time Elite national boxing champion, and his comeback win this year on the national stage once again, meant that he qualified for selection.

Speaking about his excitement, the Wexford town man said it’s a dream come true:

“This has been a dream of mine since I was a boy, from the day my Granda Liam explained to me what the Olympic Games meant. And I’ve gotten a second chance to make that dream a reality. This has been one hell of a journey. I am forever grateful to get back here and look forward to working hard and chasing my dreams.”

Walsh, who fights out of St. Joseph’s/St. Ibar’s boxing club in Wexford, also thanked the support that he has around him that helped him get back to chasing his dreams:

“A huge shout out to my family, my partner & her family, my club, my coaches, sponsors ,all of Wexford, and, the IABA and Team Ireland for supporting me, without you all it would never be possible. It’s a team effort and what a team I have behind me!”

The tournament takes place this weekend. All of Wexford are behind Dean as he hopes to qualify for the Olympic games in Paris for the Summer of 2024.
