To the delight of many, the Wexford Senior hurling championship returned this weekend…
The Rapparees club in Enniscorthy town were up against Rathnure in the opening round of the Wexford Senior hurling championship which took place at Chadwicks Wexford Park.
The Rapps comfortably won that game on a score-line of 0-25 to 2-12.
One omission from the Rapparees panel on the weekend was former Wexford hurler, and long-serving club stalwart, Tomas ‘Mossy’ Mahon.
First reported by Ronan Fagan in the Wexford People, ‘Mossy’ Mahon has decided to hang up his hurl and call his time on his playing career.
Mahon was one of the best Rapparees hurlers to play the game. His touch, quick-thinking, and dead accurate free-taking will not be forgotten.
He was one of the Rapparees main players for countless years, and enjoyed spells from the bench only in the latter end of his career.
One of the highlights for Mahon, no doubt, was being a member of the Rapparees team that won the Wexford Senior hurling championship back in 2021, after defeating St Annes in the final, the club’s first Senior hurling championship win in 43 years.
