Round 2: Predictions for the Wexford Senior hurling championship

The Wexford Senior hurling championship returned last weekend…

Following the Round 1 clash, the betting odds have been released for the outright winner of the Wexford Senior hurling championship.

Here, we share our predictions for Round 2 of the Wexford Senior hurling championship.

Group A:

Faythe Harriers vs Naomh Eanna

Despite a slow start against Oylegate, Naomh Eanna comfortably won in the end. They are a persistent goal threat and will prove difficult to manage for most teams. With the news of Richie Lawlor’s decision to go travelling, they’ve definitely been dealt a big blow. The Harriers drew with a depleted Glynn-Barntown team last weekend, but with Lee Chin on the field, it’s never going to be easy for any side. All considered though, we think Naomh Eanna will win this one by about three points. (Prediction: Naomh Eanna)

St Annes vs Oylegate-Glenbrien

Our prediction for this one is St Annes. They looked good last weekend and a lot of things seemed to work well for them. Oylegate, on the other hand, seemed somewhat disjointed and even struggled to understand their best line-up. It’ll be interesting to see if Damien Reck starts in the centre-forward position again, or if he’ll return to his number 6 spot (Prediction: St Annes).

St Martins vs Glynn Barntown

Local derbies are always good. Glynn-Barntown made account of themselves last weekend with seven new debutants to Senior hurling due to player’s travelling or injured. While they did show good form all things considered, this match against St Martins could be too tough for them. (Prediction: St Martins).

Group B:

Crossabeg vs Rapparees

After Round 1, the Rapps looked like the team to beat. This week, they’re coming up against Crossabeg. Last weekend, Crossabeg managed to draw with Oulart-The Ballagh, a game both teams felt that they could have won. Despite the fact that former inter-county hurler, Paudie Foley, has returned to the number six spot for The Beg after a year of travelling, the Rapps will likely win this one. (Prediction: Rapparees).

Shelmaliers vs Rathnure

The battle of the black and amber. It’s always a good tie between these two. Ross Banville playing at number six is an interesting choice for the Shels. Both teams lost last weekend, so this tie could prove crucial for both teams. We are going for the Shelmaliers to win this one by about six points plus. (Predicition: Shels)

Ferns vs Oulart the Ballagh

Reigning champions Ferns looked like a solid outfit last weekend after they powered to victory over the Shelmaliers, who always do well in the Wexford Senior hurling championship. Ian Byrne had a masterclass on the frees. Shaun Murphy went off injured last week, and if he’s not playing, he could prove to be a huge loss for Oulart-The Ballagh. The reigning champions will likely win this one, but Oulart won’t give it to them easy either. (Prediction: Ferns St-Aidans)
