Solar-powered ‘Eco Showboat’ will be in New Ross this Saturday

Artists Anne Cleary and Denis Connolly are navigating Ireland’s inland waterways meeting artists, scientists and communities to spark climate action on Mayfly, a solar-powered yacht…

Mayfly and the team will be in New Ross from August 3rd to 7th, and invite you to join them for a joyful evening of art, ecology and performance on Saturday August 5th hosted by the Dunbrody Famine Ship.

5-7 pm: MEET THE INVERTEBRATES

The Eco Showboat resident ecologist Rachel O’Malley introduces you to a variety of fascinating little creatures from the waterways – freshwater invertebrates that can tell us a lot about the quality of our water.

7 pm: MEET THE TEAM

Meet Anne and Denis and hear about their two-year solar journey on the island’s waterways, and their encounters with artists, activists and scientists along the way.

7:30 – 9 pm:  POETRY ON THE DUNBRODY

An evening of poetry and storytelling aboard the Dunbrody by Wexford artists Joe Brennan, Suzanne Walsh and Ben Mac Caoilte. Joe is a storyteller who has shared his tales with audiences of all ages throughout Ireland; Suzanne Walsh is an artist and writer who uses performance, text, and audio, that takes inspiration from nonhuman worlds, often including the animal one; Ben is a poet, musician and performance artist who creates work in both Irish and English language.

The Eco Showboat is an art project aimed at raising awareness of climate change. Eco Showboat in New Ross is supported by the Arts Council, Wexford County Council, The Dunbrody Famine Ship Experience, LAWPRO, Creative Ireland and Waterways Ireland.
