Story about former Monageer’s player’s comments to Billy Byrne is brilliant

The latest episode of ‘One Life One Club’ dropped recently…

On the episode, which is in association with Wexford Weekly, both Ed Rowesome and Aidan Fenlon from the Monageer GAA Club were interviewed.

One question posed to the lads was about the jokers and characters in their club.

Brian O’Loughlin’s name was mentioned by Aidan Fenlon.

“Brian O’Loughlin was a quare fella. He was hurling on Billy Byrne during the end of Billy’s career. He was on him anyway – but Billy was after darting him two or three times.”

“So he turns around to Billy anyhow and says ‘if you don’t watch yourself now, I’ll take that sweeping brush from out from under your nose.”

The comment was referring to Billy’s historic moustache – but it just goes to show that, despite winning an All-Ireland and being a Wexford hurling legend, you were never too good for some sledging in the old days of hurling.
