A Wexford club is set to feature in a hit series…
The Disney+ series, namely ‘Welcome to Wrexham’, follows the story of Ryan Reynold’s and Rob McElhenney’s takeover of Wrexham Football Club in Wales.
It has been revealed that a Wexford-based football club, New Ross Celtic, will feature in a future episode.
The New Ross Celtic football club revealed the news on their social media channels on Tuesday evening, noting that they had the cameras at their pitch:
“We had the cameras rolling in Butlersland tonight as the film crew from ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ came over.”
“They did their bit for their series on Thomas O’Connor and the club itself and also met the under age squads and coaches heading over in March for a game.”
Not a bad contact and ties to have and hopefully benefits everyone going forward. A bit of the Hollywood fever on a cold evening in New Ross”, they said.
O’Connor is a native of Kilkenny, but he played his underage football with New Ross in Wexford. He moved to Wrexham of the National League for an undisclosed fee in January 2022, after the take-over from the superstars.
Season 2 is currently available on Disney+, but intrigued Wexford people will have to wait until the release of Series 3 until they see the New Ross AFC feature.
