Bookies release odds on upcoming hurling match between Wexford and Offaly

The Wexford hurlers played out a draw against Kilkenny in Nowlan Park last weekend

The teams could not be separated, with the final score read 2-16 apiece. It was a game where Wexford’s full-back, Conor Foley, scored 0-02 from play and picked up the GAA.ie Hurler of the Week award as a result.

New Wexford manager Keith Rossiter will be somewhat happy with getting a result. The two points could have easily went to Kilkenny, who had a last-gasp free dropped short in the dying seconds of the game. It means that since Rossiter has taken over the team, they are yet to lose a competitive match, having won their thee games in the Walsh Cup campaign prior to the commencement of the Allianz League.

Wexford will now face The Faithful County, Offaly, in the next round of the Allianz League campaign.

Ahead of the game, the major bookmakers including PaddyPower, Betfair an BoyleSports have released their odds and they all view it as an easy win for Wexford.

The Punters Page, who regularly feature betting deals and tips, have also tipped Wexford to easily win this match.

Wexford win 1/12

Draw 16/1

Offaly win 15/2

However, at the end of the day, it’s a game of hurling and anything can happen too. And Wexford people will know all about this. Keith Rossiter will be ensuring that Wexford do not suffer a similar fate to what happened in last year’s Leinster Championship game, whereby the team put their foot off the pedal and lost out to Westmeath, despite being up by 16 points at the interval.

This game will be a big game for both Wexford and Offaly. Both teams would have ear-marked this evening in Chadwicks Wexford Park as one that they cannot lose to ensure that they keep their Allianz League hopes alive.

In the previous game, Offaly lost out heavily to Davy Fitzgerald’s Waterford, another team that they may have believed they would have had a strong chance against. As a result, this clash against the Yellowbellies has become an even-more important match for the Faithful County. Otherwise, they’ll have to get points against Kilkenny, Clare, or Cork.

Despite the bookies’ odds, Wexford should not disregard Offaly here. With players such as Cillian Kiely, Dan Bourke, and former Offaly u-20 star Charlie Mitchell in their line up, they have the potential in their ranks to cause an upset.
