People from far and near invited to official launch night of Fleadh Cheoil in Wexford

An evening filled with craic agus ceol, this special launch is set to be a highlight on the Wexford social calendar…

The countdown is on to the Festival and the committee members have released details to the media about their upcoming official launch night.

After years of anticipation, Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, 2024 will be officially launched in the National Opera House on Saturday, 30th March at 6.30 pm.

The Wexford Fleadh Executive Committee invite members of the public to attend what promises to be a fun-filled night of music, entertainment and, above all, a celebration of traditional Irish culture. Very special guests on the night include renowned TV presenter Síle Seoige with music from the rousing Blackwater Céilí Band. 

Music lovers, the people of Wexford and visitors from far and wide are invited to book their FREE tickets at the National Opera House website: https://www.nationaloperahouse.ie/ from 10.00 am on Tuesday 26th March. An evening not to be missed, early booking is advised! 

The times on the night are:

6:30pm: Drinks and canapes reception

7:30pm: Performances by The Blackwater Ceilí Band, Alan Finn & friends and the Ceoltóirí na Sláine Orchestra, hosted by Síle Seoige

Blackwater Ceilí Band

The Blackwater Céilí Band hails from the Clogher Valley region of County Tyrone, in the heart of Ulster’s musical landscape. Since their formation in 2015, the band have risen to prominence and are widely recognised as one of the finest exponents of Irish Traditional Music. They bring boundless energy and passion to every performance, creating fresh musical interpretations with distinctive character and detail, firmly rooted in the Ulster tradition.

In 2018, the Blackwater made history, claiming the prestigious Senior All-Ireland Céilí Band title at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Drogheda. Consequently, they became one of only three Ulster bands to accomplish this feat, cementing their place in the annals of céilí band folklore.

Alan Finn

Alan Finn is unique in his vast contribution to the traditional music industry in this country as musician, teacher and mentor. A multi-instrumentalist highly proficient on button accordion, fiddle and viola to name a few, Alan is leader of the Shandrum Céilí Band; the latest to achieve the elusive triple All Ireland Winning status. They have played to vast crowds to much acclaim both at home and abroad in the past few years. The Shandrum were honoured to be invited by President Michael D. Higgins to perform at Áras an Uachtaráin on St. Patricks Day 2016 and also performing at official state commemoration for the 1916 rising in Dublin Castle again for President Michael D. Higgins, his wife Sabina and many dignitaries the world over. In 2009, Alan had the privilege of performing for US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle in the White House, Washington to celebrate St.Patrick’s day. 

 Síle Seoige

TV Presenter, Podcaster, MC, Wellness speaker and Yoga Teacher 

Native Irish speaker Síle is a talented broadcaster who has developed a wealth of experience over the past twenty-six years in the media business. Since 2019 she has been working on her own successful podcast series called ‘Ready to be Real’ featuring well known faces, industry experts and people with extraordinary stories to tell and it continues to grow its fanbase. And in 2021 she gained critical acclaim for her powerful and emotional documentary on the topic of miscarriage for TG4.
