Former Wexford hurler pinpoints why Wexford have the edge over Dublin this Sunday

Wexford will take on Dublin this Sunday in the first round of the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship…

Both Larry Murphy and Larry O’Gorman were the most recent guests on this week’s Wexford Hurling Podcast.

Despite not winning their previous Championship three outings against Dublin, Wexford enter this Sunday’s clash as 2/5 favourites in the eyes of the bookies.

Speaking to hosts, both Ben Bernie and Garry Doran, one 1996 All-Ireland winner pinpointed why he believes Wexford have the edge over Dublin.

“A few of the lads coming back from injury will be a massive phycological boost as much as competition for places. I wouldn’t like to be naming the team for Sunday. There might be one or two lads who have had good leagues, possibly disappointed that they’re not getting a start. But for Wexford, it means that you’re looking into a sub’s bench and you’re seeing guys who have had good Leagues – and I think that’s going to give us an edge,” Larry Murphy said.

It’s a big game for Wexford this weekend, but Larry Murphy did state that the result will not define their year too:

“I think Dublin would have targeted Wexford Park on Sunday. The two management teams will know how much this means. Whoever comes out the winner on Sunday, will probably finish third in the group. No disrespect to Carlow, they’ve made great strides – they’re probably targeting the Antrim match as a big game for them. Going up to Antrim won’t be easy, but if we can get over Dublin on Sunday, there’s going to be huge momentum and confidence gained. The group will start taking better shape,” former Wexford Larry Murphy said.
