It means that Keith Rossiter’s team have now been placed into the qualifiers, or in today’s terms, a ‘preliminary’ All-Ireland quarter-final.
The Wexford Senior hurlers will take on the runner-up of the Joe McDonagh Cup. In this year’s Joe McDonagh Cup, Laois will take on Offaly. Wexford’s clash against either Laois or Offaly will be an away clash on the weekend of June 15-16.
Should Wexford defeat either Offaly or Laois, an All-Ireland quarter-final awaits them.
In the All-Ireland quarter-final, they will take on the losers of the Munster final. In this year’s Munster final, both Limerick and Clare will compete for silverware.
The All-Ireland quarter-final has been pencilled in to take place in Thurles, Tipperary.
The All-Ireland quarter-final is currently pencilled in to take place in Thurles on Saturday, June 22, as per Cork newspaper, Echo Live, but this is still subject to change.
The loser of Dublin/Kilkenny will take on Cork/Laois/Offaly in the other All-Ireland quarter-final.
Many would predict that both Cork and Wexford will advance from their All-Ireland preliminary quarter-finals. Then, many would predict that the All-Ireland quarter-final will be between Cork vs Dublin, and Wexford vs Clare.
But it’s one game at a time for Wexford. Wexford fans know all too well not to think too far ahead and their game against either Laois or Offaly will be the only game on their minds.
