All you need to know ahead of the Wexford vs Kilkenny match

The Wexford Senior hurlers lost out heavily to Cork at Wexford Park before delivering a much improved performance against Tipperary but still falling short…

Keith Rossiter and his management team will be hoping that the Wexford Senior hurlers will be able to respond in Round 3 of the National Hurling League when they take on Derek Lyng’s Kilkenny side.

Here, we look at all you need to know ahead of this weekend’s clash.

Where can I purchase tickets?

Those interested in attending the match can purchase tickets online. Tickets are now available via https://am.ticketmaster.com/gaa/ Please note that in line with central GAA ticketing policy, tickets are required for U16s. Adult tickets cost €20.

Is it being streamed, or is it on television?

Yes, it will be actually! Wexford’s home clash against Kilkenny will be broadcast live on RTE. It’s Wexford’s first game to be broadcast on live television this campaign.

Betting odds:

Wexford have been given quite good odds for this upcoming clash. They are priced at the bookies at 15/4. The draw can be secured at 18/1, while Kilkenny are favourites at 4/11. It’s no real surprise considering Wexford are without many of their stalwarts, however, games in the past at Wexford Park would suggest a closer encounter than what the bookies are predicting.

How are Wexford ahead of the clash?

It’s not good news for Keith Rossiter and the Wexford Senior hurling team. Already facing an uphill battle against last year’s All-Ireland finalists, Rossiter has been dealt some major blows. They include Conor McDonald, Liam Ryan and also the trio of Matt O’Hanlon, Dee O’Keeffe, and Liam OgMcGovern that retired ahead of the season. It is believed that Damien Reck may return to the starting fifteen this weekend, adding some much needed experience to the back-line. Wexford’s captain, Lee Chin, also returned to training last Saturday – and while it may be too early for him to start the game, he could feature on the match-day squad. More good news is the fact that Rory O’Connor will be back in action for the Kilkenny clash, after serving his suspension from the Cork game.

Who else will Wexford play in the League campaign?

Wexford have been placed into Roinn A of the Allianz Hurling League for 2025. They will also take on Clare, Galway, and Limerick which will no doubt be tricky encounters for the Yellowbellies who are plagued by injuries. In Shane McGrath’s previous discussion with the lads from the Wexford Hurling Podcast, he highlighted why this clash against the Cats is so important for Wexford and why it’s a must win.
