Wexford’s Sean Thim O’Leary, has been elected as the newest Student President of Trinity College Dublin.
Sean, who is from Riverchapel in Wexford, ran a successful campaign to become the newest Student President of Triniy College in Dublin.
Seán Thim O’Leary was elected as the next president of Trinity College Dublin Students’ Union (TCDSU), with 29.13% of first-preference votes.
O’Leary overcame a first-preference vote of 38.12% on the third count after votes were redistributed from opponents Patrick Keegan and Giovanni Li.
A current undergraduate student of Political Science, Philosophy, Economics, and Sociology (PPES) at Trinity College Dublin, Sean vowed that he would become the voice that will represent everyone:
“Thanks to my amazing campaign team and the greatest deal of thanks must go to the best campaign manager this SU election has ever seen,” they said referring to campaign manager Eoin Connolly.
“I do want to endeavour to be a president that can represent everyone; and I do want to just say that I will be a president for every single goddamn member of this union.”
“I need to congratulate them they’ve all run amazing campaigns and I also want to say for all the people that are disappointed today that every single person who ran in this election put the work in and they should be proud of themselves to no end,” he told Trinity Times, the college newspaper.
O’Leary has been involved in communities and acted in roles such as Trinity Social Democrats Chairperson and as TCDSU Union Archivist & Class Representative in the past.
The Wexford native will start the role in July 2025, taking over the role from Jenny Maguire.
