Gabrielle is the first Enniscorthy girl to graduate from the Irish Naval Service

It was a proud moment for Gabrielle and her family recently…

An Enniscorthy woman, Gabrielle Blackburn-Mullally, recently graduated from basic training at the Irish Naval Service.

On the day, her mother – Mary Mullally – was informed by a long-serving officer that she was the first Enniscorthy girl to graduate.

Gabrielle grew up in Enniscorthy and she want to St Aidan’s Primary school before her family moved to Cork ten years ago.

Gabrielle, who is 21 years of age, undertook the first 12 weeks of training in Meath:

“The first lot of training took 12 weeks up in Meath. There was a lot of different fitness test and then she graduated as an ‘Ordinary Rate’ Seamen from the 5th Platoon,” her mother Mary told Wexford Weekly.

It’s just the start of Gabrielle’s new chapter though:

“Her next step is that she moves to Haulbowline in County Cork for another 12 weeks training. She will be aiming for ‘Able Rate’, where she gets two stripes on her uniform.”

Speaking to Wexford Weekly, Gabrielles’s mother Mary said she couldn’t be prouder of her daughter’s recent achievements:

“I couldn’t be more proud of her; she has overcome so much. It was hard training but she never gave up and I’m so proud of her strength and determination,” Mary said.
