
An iconic former nightclub in Wexford town was up for auction today…
The Stores nightclub, home to legendary stories and craic since 1988, was sold at auction today for €500,000 above its guide price.
The Stores was sold at auction for €1.2 million, with the auction concluding at 1pm on Wednesday afternoon.
It had a guide price of €750,000, however, with strong interest in the building – it was expected to be auctioned off at a higher price.
The Stores was owned by the late Micheal Tierney, before it was bought by an investment company in 2022 to then finally close its doors in October 2024.
The new owner of the building is now known to the public. Following the auction, sources close to Wexford Weekly said that the new owner is promient publican in Wexford town, Andy Doyle – who owns the Bugler Doyles and Guesthouse pub in Wexford.
Another publican from North Wexford was also in the running – but the auction was eventually won by Wexford businessman Andy Doyle. It means that the Stores will remain in Wexford hands.
At the time of writing, it is also unknown as to what purpose the building will have in the future, but one can assume that the Stores will re-open as a venue for entertainment in the near future.
Many people are hopeful that it will be return to its former state, allowing people in Wexford town and beyond to dance into the night.
