Another well-known store in Wexford is set to close down…
Claire’s retail outlet located on North Main Street, Wexford Town, has been confirmed to be among a batch of high-street closures affecting the chain across the UK and Ireland.
Claire’s is a global accessories and jewellery retailer, best known for its popularity among young shoppers. The store sells fashion jewellery, hair accessories, cosmetics, and provides ear-piercing services. Over the years, it became a go-to spot for teenagers and children looking for affordable and trendy items, with its bright pink branding becoming a familiar sight in shopping areas across Ireland.
The reason for the Wexford closure stems from financial difficulties within the company. Claire’s UK and Ireland operations entered administration in August 2025 after its American parent company filed for bankruptcy. As part of a major restructuring effort, only a portion of stores were saved by a rescue deal, while over 140 outlets were left unsold and scheduled for permanent closure – including the Wexford branch.

The company has pointed to a number of factors behind the decision, including rising competition from online retailers, changing consumer habits, increased operating costs, and a decline in traditional high-street footfall. These challenges have made it increasingly difficult for stores like Claire’s to remain profitable.
The Wexford closure marks another loss for the local high street, following similar shutdowns of well-known retailers in recent years.
For many locals, it represents the end of a familiar presence in the town centre and another sign of how the retail landscape continues to evolve.
