A Wexford man is taking on an extraordinary challenge in this year’s Irish Life Dublin Marathon — running the entire 26.2 miles in jeans…
Jake Dowling from Gorey in County Wexford, now affectionately known as “Jake in Jeans,” is using the marathon to raise awareness and funds for the Alzheimer Society of Ireland. He’s also dedicating his effort to his late Nana, Anne, who lived with the illness.
Jake’s goal is to raise €1,500 for the charity, and he has already received more than €400 in donations.
To prepare, Jake ran a half-marathon in July 2025 — also in jeans — to test out his unique approach before tackling the full distance later this month.
Speaking about his motivation, Jake said:
“I’m running the Irish Life Dublin Marathon 2025 — for something bigger than myself. It’s 26.2 miles of challenge and purpose, and I’m doing it to help make a real difference. Your support — whether through a donation or by sharing this page — means the world.”
His sister, Abbie Dowling, explained his reasoning further:
“He wants the jeans to draw attention but also stand as a mark of respect that one day of possible discomfort in the marathon is nothing compared to those with the incurable illness,” she told Wexford Weekly.
