Two Wexford men were part of a successful Senior hurling team at the All Asian Games (AAG’s) held over the weekend… .
Signapore and the Viet Celts (Hanoi) competed in the Senior Hurling Final. A total of four Wexford natives competed in the 9-a-side Senior Hurling Final.
The Viet Celts (Hanoi) were seconds away from victory, but a last gasp goal from Signapore – in what was literally the last strike of the game – brought the game to extra-time.
However, it was Signapore GAA who would eventually go on to win the game after extra-time, defeating the Viet Celts (Hanoi) in a what was really a cracking hurling final and one for the neutral.
With GAA President Jarlath Burns in attendance, an artane band marched both teams around the pitch before the game and the national anthem was proudly sang by all GAA members abroad.
Hundreds of people lined the sidelines to cheer on the sides to watch the penultimate of Asian hurling action on a sunny Sunday afternoon in Thailand.
Wexford natives Cormac Foley (Buffers Alley) and Brendan Hughes (St Fintans), who captained the team, were part of the Singapore GAA team that won the Senior Hurling Championship.
Wexford native Cormac moved to Singapore in 2023 but had previously played with Hanoi (Viet Celts) since first moving out from Ireland in 2019.
Brendan also made the move to Singapore in 2023. Both are now playing hurling and football with Singapore GAA, which has over 100 active members.

Meanwhile, two other Wexford natives were also on the Viet Celts (Hanoi, Vietnam) team. Fíach Crowley (Faythe Harriers) starred for the Viet Celts throughout the 2-day hurling tournament, while Jason Redmond (Naomh Eanna, Gorey) linked up well with the fellow Wexford man in the attack.

The Bangkok tournament brought together more than 600 players from all over Asia. Teams from China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Cambodia, Japan, Korea, and Laos, and among others enjoyed the two day tournament in the tough 28 degree heat.
Overall, it was a clean sweep for Singapore across the board. Their men’s teams won both football and hurling, while the ladies took home titles in both camogie and football as well.
