Wexford man Barry Murphy joined the Young Fine Gael (YFG) National Executive this week as National Director of Policy…
Having served on the committee of Wexford YFG and the Constituency Executive of Fine Gael in Wexford for over 10 years, he has worked with Fine Gael’s Councillors and Oireachtas members in Wexford and will now step up to doing so on the national stage. Barry is a secondary school teacher from Screen and has been a mainstay of YFG in Wexford in this time.
In his role, he will be responsible for gathering policy ideas from YFG members all across the country and developing them into policies that the government can implement.
Following his appointment, Barry said:
“I’m excited to join the National Executive. As a teacher, I see the issues faced by young people daily. Taking on the role of Director of Policy will allow me to represent the concerns and ideas of young people to Ministers and Public Reps and hopefully influence Government decisions. This role gives excellent access to government, as shown by the YFG Bill on Spiking which is currently before the Dáil,” he told Wexford Weekly.

He will join his constituency colleague Ian Moran, from Wexford town, who currently serves as Young Fine Gael’s Leinster Regional Organiser.
Ian welcomed the appointment saying:
“I am happy to welcome Barry to the National Executive. I have worked closely with him in the branch and have no doubt that he will be an excellent addition to the National Executive and I look forward to working with him and seeing the incredible work he will do in his new role,” Ian said.
In December, Barry and Wexford Chairperson Louis Pemble won Young Fine Gael’s James Dillon Debating Competition beating teams from all over the country.
Louis welcomed the news saying:
“Barry has been a stalwart of the Wexford Young Fine Gael branch. He has held many positions on the Wexford Young Fine Gael committee and has been incredibly active in the branch and I have no doubt will be great in his new role and I wish him the best,” Louis told Wexford Weekly.
