The Wexford hurlers enjoyed an easy win against Kildare on Saturday evening…
The Wexford Senor hurlers defeated Kildare on a score-line of 3-29 to 1-14, with Rathnure’s Jack Redmond hitting 3-03 from play in Wexford Park.
Speaking after the game to The Wexford Hurling Podcast, former Wexford hurling selector and former Wexford player, Des Mythen, believes that Wexford can cause an upset in the Leinster Championship:
“After a couple of good performances, against Dublin especially and then Kildare, they’ll be on a high and they’ll be fancying their chances to spring a surprise in Leinster. To me, Leinster — the teams are not world beaters — and I think Wexford can cause upsets in this championship,” he said.
Meanwhile, Adrian Fenlon echoed similar sentiments as a guest on the Wexford Hurling Podcast. The Rapparees clubman spoke about Wexford’s improvements since the start of the League, highlighting reasons to be hopeful as the Leinster Championship looms:
“I would agree with Des. Throughout the League, Wexford have been improving and it’s fantastic see. The first game against Antrim was ropey — and then against Down they could have been bet — but Wexford got through the two tricky tests initially. Then they beat Carlow, always a banana-skin. Dublin.. they should have beat, who were well-packed with most of their Championship team that day, while we were still forming ours. We should have finished that one out. The Clare game – I thought at half-time, they were dead and buried — but they showed great resilience.”
“On Saturday night, I was expecting a bigger test from Kildare… but Wexford played very well, their use of the ball, and the space created, it was really impressive. But we can’t be complacent going to Newbridge in April (for Championship). I’m very impressed with the progress of the team. I wouldn’t take much from Saturday’s League game against Kildare, but Wexford are doing really well,” Adrian Fenlon said on the Wexford Hurling Podcast.
Wexford’s first game in the Leinster Championship will be against Kildare in Newbridge on Saturday, 18th April 2026.
