It has been a long time coming, but it’s finally here…
A new era for Gaelic football in gaming is set to begin at midnight tonight, as Belfast-based indie studio Buck Eejit Games prepares to launch its long-awaited title Gaelic Football Laochra, led by technical director Peadar McMahon of Buck Eejit Games.
The game marks the first major Gaelic football video game release in nearly two decades, and interest has been building steadily across Ireland and beyond ahead of its official rollout.
Gaelic Football Laochra will launch at midnight tonight — or 00:00 May 28, 2026, with availability beginning at midnight depending on regional storefront timing.
The game will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam). Early previews and studio statements describe the title as a modern, physics-driven take on Gaelic football, featuring updated gameplay systems, career mode options, and full customisation tools for teams and players. Gameplay will also include the new GAA rules including the 2-point arc system and the high-field mark.

The project is led by Peadar McMahon, who has spoken previously about being inspired by older sports franchises and wanting to build a more authentic and fluid representation of Gaelic football than earlier attempts.
Recent feature coverage notes that the development team is relatively small, but includes experienced developers working across animation, gameplay design, and motion capture systems, with the project described as a major undertaking for the studio.
One of the key questions among fans has been whether Gaelic Football Laochra will be available in shops.
The game is confirmed for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam digital platforms. No confirmed physical retail disc edition has been announced in any official release material. Wishlist and store listings point toward digital storefront distribution as the primary release method. This suggests that players will likely need to purchase and download the game via PlayStation Store, Xbox Marketplace, or Steam.
However, as with many modern indie sports titles, a physical release could still be announced post-launch depending on demand.
With anticipation building ahead of midnight, Gaelic Football Laochra represents a significant milestone for Irish sport in gaming, particularly given the absence of a major Gaelic football title since the mid-2000s.
Whether it becomes a cult favourite or a mainstream success remains to be seen, but the launch itself marks a notable return of Gaelic football to consoles—and a major moment for Irish-developed video games.
