Independent handmade crafts shop opens up in Wexford town

A new addition to Wexford Town’s independent retail scene is already making its mark….

Gathered & Co, located in Eclectic Avenue, officially opened in May 2026 and has been warmly welcomed by customers eager to discover unique handmade products while supporting local makers.

Owned by Ernie Roche and Samantha Cheng, Gathered & Co was born from a shared passion for handmade crafts and Irish creativity. The couple wanted to create something different from the typical retail experience — a space where customers could connect with the stories behind the products and support talented makers from across Ireland.

Explaining the inspiration behind the business, business owner Ernie says the idea grew from their own experiences as makers and their appreciation for handcrafted products:

“As makers ourselves, we have always had a passion for handmade products and wanted to offer something different from what is typically found in mainstream retail. We believe handmade items are unique and created with care. Our goal was to create a welcoming space where people can discover special gifts, support made in Ireland products and connect with a creative community.”

The decision to locate the business within the new Eclectic Avenue mall has proven to be a positive one. Since opening, Gathered & Co has benefitted from the supportive atmosphere and strong sense of community that has become synonymous with the popular retail destination. Ernie says the experience has exceeded expectations:

“Being part of Eclectic Avenue has been a fantastic experience. The warm and welcoming atmosphere, along with the support from the community, has made it a great place for our business.”

Like many small business owners, the journey from concept to opening day was not without its challenges. Reflecting on the setup phase, Ernie acknowledges the hard work involved in bringing their vision to life.

“Like any new venture, we certainly faced our share of challenges while setting up the business. Transforming the shop, organising stock and preparing for launch required a significant amount of time, planning, and dedication. Curating a carefully selected collection of handmade products and creating a welcoming space for customers,” Ernie told Wexford Weekly.

Rather than one standout bestseller, Gathered & Co has found success in offering an ever-changing selection of handcrafted gifts, homewares and creative pieces. For Ernie, the appeal lies in the uniqueness of the products and the opportunity to discover something different with every visit:

“It is very much a vibrant mix of everything. People can discover unique, intentional items that you just can’t replicate in larger retail stores. Because our products are handmade in small batches, stock is often limited, meaning there is always something new to discover.”

What sets Gathered & Co apart is its ambition to be more than simply a retail outlet. The business has been designed as a community-focused space that celebrates Irish craftsmanship while creating opportunities for people to connect, learn and be inspired:

“Gathered & Co is more than just a shop. It is a community focused space where people can come together, connect and support Irish small businesses. We are passionate about championing local makers and showcasing a carefully curated collection of handmade products that celebrate Irish creativity and craftsmanship.”

The business also hosts workshops, allowing visitors to learn new skills, meet like-minded people and enjoy a creative outlet away from the demands of everyday life.

“In addition to retail, we host small workshops that offer people the opportunity to learn new skills, meet others, and enjoy a creative break from the pace of everyday life. Our goal is to create a welcoming environment where customers can discover unique products, support local and feel part of a vibrant and growing community,” Ernie told Wexford Weekly.

Just weeks after opening, the owners have already been encouraged by the positive response from customers and the wider community:

“We officially launched Gathered & Co in May 2026 and the response has been incredibly positive. It has been wonderful to see so many people visiting the shop, exploring the space, and supporting local makers from the very beginning. We are delighted by the warm welcome from the community and grateful for the support shown towards Irish handmade products and small businesses.”

Looking ahead, both Ernie and Samantha are focused on building upon that early success by expanding their network of makers, growing their product range and increasing the number of workshops available. Their long-term vision is centred on community, creativity and local enterprise:

“We hope to continue growing our community of makers, expand our range of handmade products, and offer more workshops. Our goal is to make Gathered & Co a place where people can shop local, support local businesses, get inspired and enjoy being part of a creative community.”

With its commitment to Irish craftsmanship, independent makers and community connection, Gathered & Co is already proving to be a welcome addition to Wexford Town’s retail landscape and a destination for those seeking something truly unique.

Eclectic Avenue is based on North Main Street in Wexford Town, in the former Bullring Mall building. It functions as a collaborative retail and community space housing a range of independent businesses, makers, food vendors, workshops, and creative enterprises.
