Racegoers are in for a treat at Wexford on Friday night as there are eight races to look forward to; four over hurdles, three over fences and one bumper to conclude the card.
Read on for a preview of and tips for the Wexford card, brought to you by BOYLE Sports, who have all the horse racing odds.
We begin with a two and a half mile maiden hurdle (16.47). Ellis Brittle is a newcomer and might turn out to be handy, but Majestic Horizon looks to be the one to beat at present, bringing some good bumper form to the table and winning sole point-to-point start.
Next is the first division of a two and a quarter mile handicap hurdle (17.20). Kentucky Bluebird offered plenty of encouragement last time out when finishing fourth of 14 at this track, so should be a key player here. Oh So Charming goes well at this track too and looks competitive with a seven-pound claimer in the saddle.
In the second division (17.50), Bella Union brings some good recent form and has proven to remain in the mix at this mark. Bossing It has shown some signs of improvement lately which is promising, while Hidalgo Des Mottes might be able to get involved at the sharp end too, having finished second of 13 last time at Punchestown.
An extended three-mile maiden hurdle follows (18.20). There are plenty in here who are still very unexposed, with just a run or two to their names. Included here is Young Doran, who placed second on debut at Ballinrobe and should be able to make some progress. Spill A Drop is a point-to-point winner who might benefit from the application of cheekpieces here, while Doctor Elvis must be considered too in the Gigginstown colours.
A two and a half mile beginners chase is our first race over fences today (18.52). Henry De Bromhead’s Pinot Gris was the highest rated over hurdles and did not disgrace himself on chase debut at Clonmel in April. He should be in with a chance here. Duke Silver was another highly rated hurdler who starts over fences for the first time here and should run to a place.
Race six is a two and a half mile handicap chase (19.25). Nouvatic seeks a hat-trick and has won over course and distance on the way to today. This might not be beyond him, but his main opposition appears to be Ma Jacks Hill, who won at Punchestown last time in a novice chase and could progress further. Clonshire River can’t be forgotten, though, and could pull this off from the bottom of the handicap.
Second to last is another two and a half mile handicap chase (20.00). Fr Gilligansvoyage won his latest start and hasn’t been too heavily penalised by the handicapper, so could repeat the form. Giant Haystacks has been showing some promise recently and might get involved too, while King’s Son improved his form last time and might surprise again.
The bumper concludes the card (20.30). We have a few newcomers here so this race could turn out to be anything, but Mistakenforanother could be a handy sort after a good second last time. Martymill also placed on his last appearance, as did Highlander Addict. False Dawn is lesser exposed though and has shown ability, so might be the one to go for here.
