John Mullane Tips 80/1 Shot Wexford Hurler For Next Hurler Of The Year

Waterford legend is tipping a long-shot from Wexford for the next hurler of the year…

Writing in a column for PaddyPower, Waterford hurling legend and now commentator John Mullane is tipping a Wexford hurler for the next hurler of the year.

The De La Salle club native has tipped St Annes clubman Diarmuid O’Keeffe as one of the hurlers he believes is in with a shot of claiming the prestigious individual honour.

Wexford’s attacking wing-back and midfielder is tipped as a long shot, at 80/1 in PaddyPower.

“He is a crucial part of this Wexford team and with Davy Fitzgerald’s running style, he seems to be on the ball every minute of every game . Winter hurling will be demanding, especially if games come thick and fast. However, it will suit this Wexford team and in particular a player like Diarmuid O’Keeffe. He was due to take a year out travelling, but that was cut short when news broke that Davy was staying on,” Mullane said in his column.

“He did get the chance to take a small break though and that will help him recover last season. The current situation will also have him ready for the Championship when it eventually starts.”

Along with starring throughout the campaign, to receive the honour, O’Keeffe and his team-mates would likely have to compete in the All-Ireland hurling final.
