Government Confirms That Pubs Across Ireland Are To Remain Closed

The opening of the pubs across Ireland has been postponed for the second time..

Pubs, bars, hotel bars, night clubs and casinos will remain closed the Government has confirmed, representing a critical blow to the already struggling sector.

Ireland’s Government confirmed the news this evening after a Cabinet meeting.

Approximately 3,500 pubs were hoping for good news and were preparing to re-open for Monday August 10th.

Pubs that serve food — a substantial meal worth €9 — will be allowed to remain open, which is sure to anger the smaller rural publicans and the vintners association.

This evening, An Taoiseach Micheál Martin, announced that the Government has come to the decision that the current public health measures shall remain in place and it will be reviewed again in just under four weeks time, on August 31st.

Measures in relation to gatherings indoors and outdoors also remain unchanged, with 50 allowed at an indoor event and a maximum of 200 allowed at an outdoor event.

The limit of capacity on the outdoor events will come as a huge blow to sporting organisations such as the GAA and FAI.
