Demand For Victim Support Has Increased In Wexford

The demand for victim support has increased in Wexford…

Victim Support at Court (V-SAC) is the only charity that specialises in free accompaniment to victims and prosecution witnesses during criminal proceedings in Court.

The charity, V-SAC, which is funded annually by the Department of Justice and Dormant Accounts Fund supported 1,977 victims nationwide in 2022.

They have expanded their service into the Wexford area over the last five years and they are now looking to recruit more volunteers for their ever-growing charity.

Speaking to Wexford Weekly, regional Coordinator Niamh Lambert said:

“While we have seen a huge increase in people accessing our services, country wide, since 2019, we still have a long way to go. A lot of victims go to court not realising that there is a support service available to them. Court can be a very scary place and our organisation aims to remove some of that fear by providing them with a friendly face, practical advice and a listening ear,” she said.

V-SAC volunteers provide support in all criminal cases where a victim involved and are at the forefront of delivering a high quality court accompaniment service within the Irish judicial system:

“Without our dedicated volunteers we would not be able to provide this vital service. We have so many cases, in Wexford, getting referred to us and it can be hard to keep up with the demand. That’s why in order for us to expand our service and to ensure that no victim is left without support, we need more volunteers in the Wexford region.” she concluded.
