This celebration captures the enduring spirit and innovation of young filmmakers, showcasing their talent and creativity at its finest”.

Dublin student Max Hendrickson (17) was named Ireland’s Young Filmmaker of the Year 2023 at the Fresh International Film Festival. His short animated film, The Tell-Tale Heart is a re-telling of Edgar Allan Poe’s famous short story and it scooped the top prize for the amazing young Director.

“I have been submitting to the Fresh International Film Festival since I was 12, and it has consistently provided the inspiration and motivation for me to keep making movies. It has been absolutely amazing to attend every year and meet other young filmmakers, and I urge all aspiring filmmakers to submit their work to Fresh,” Mark told Wexford Weekly.

The awards include a prize fund, filmmaking equipment, mentoring sessions with creative professionals, and the opportunity for young people to have their work screened theatrically.

Submissions are also considered for specialist awards including the Radharc Trust Award for heritage and documentary, the RTÉ 60 Second Award, and the RTÉ Factual Award, Best Animation, and Best Performance, along with the much-coveted peer-to-peer Audience Award.
