Allianz League Sunday pundit Neil McManus hails Wexford’s inside forward line

Wexford defeated neighbours Waterford in an almighty encounter in Walsh Park on Sunday…

The Model County defeated the Déise on a score-line of 2-23 to 1-23.

Analysing Wexford’s performance on RTE’s Allianz League Sunday, former Antrim hurler and now pundit, Neil McManus, hailed Wexford’s inside forward line:

“They absolutely put their hand up for later on in the year. Seamus Casey was playing the role as the elder statesman today, even though we’ve only been seeing a lot of him recently. He was great on the frees which Wexford really needed, he was good from open play, and well capable of winning his own ball. Whenever you’re playing two young lads beside him, with Cian Byrne and Richie Lawlor, they need that support.”

“Cian was like a dog after every ball today. He won a ball in the corner with no hurl at one stage. The score off his right was incredible, then off his left, he clearly has the talent and he’s one to look forward to,” he continued.

“I really like Richie Lawlor, winning dirty ball. That’s what it’s all about when you’re a forward. You got to be able to win dirty ball. Look at the timing when he catches that – it’s Ronaldo or Lee Chin esque. He won a free then – that’s what will happen when you win primary possession. Keith Rossiter will be delighted with those three men today,” McManus said.

Three Wexford players were named on the GAA.ie’s Team of the Week after producing some stellar performances, helping Wexford to secure the win away from home.

After an excellent win against Waterford last weekend, Wexford’s attention now quickly turns to hosting the Rebels, Cork, on Saturday.

Wexford’s win over Waterford means that they have secured Division 1A status for 2025.

A win over Cork in Chadwicks Wexford Park next Saturday (March 16th) may see us qualify for the League semi-finals, depending on the results and winning margins in other matches. Next Saturday’s other fixtures in our group are Waterford v Kilkenny, and Offaly v Clare.
