Labour announce new candidate for Wexford following Brendan Howlin’s departure

Labour in Wexford have announced their new candidate…

The announcement follows the departure of 67-year old Brendan Howlin, who has stepped away from politics after more than 40 years of service.

It’s not a shock to those within the confines of Wexford, but the party has announced that George Lawlor will stand for Wexford Labour in the next General Election.

Speaking on the decision, Lawlor expressed his delight:

“I’m proud and honoured to be selected this evening to be the Labour Party candidate for the next General Election in Wexford.”

“The Labour Party have held a seat for the constituency of Wexford for almost 100 years. It would be my privilege to follow in the footsteps of men like Richard Corish, Brendan Corish, John O Leary Labour TD in Enniscorthy and of course Brendan Howlin who stands down at the next election after 42 years of tremendous service to the people of Wexford,” he said.
