Wexford trainer Paul Nolan is taking aim at the Galway Festival this week and could have as many as four runners heading West for the Ballybrit bonanza…
The Festival gets underway on Monday and runs all week with a mix of Jumps and Flat racing on the cards across the seven days of action.
Enniscorthy trainer Nolan could have a runner in action on day one with the Galmont Herald and Galway Bay Hotel Novice hurdle, the first race of the meeting at 4.50 on Monday with Palamon. The four-year-old has one win from six runs over hurdles and is certainly shortlist material here having won a Cork maiden hurdle and a decent fourth of 17 on the Flat last time out at the Curragh.
BoyleSports will be offering the latest Galway Festival odds this week and have priced up Palamon as an 8/1 chance in this race.
Nolan looks set to have a second runner on Day One with Chiricahua, who was a useful type on the Flat two years ago but has tailed off since and is a 100/1 chance with BoyleSports to get the job done at Galway so perhaps it’s better to look elsewhere.
The aforementioned Palamon has entries on Wednesday and Saturday but is more likely to run on Day One, unless Nolan fancies a quick turnaround for his runner to get a valuable and prestigious win.
Nolan could have a runner on day three of the Festival (Wednesday) with Kings Of Park, who will need to bounce back from a very disappointing 11th of 15 at Killarney last time out when sent off a 7/2 joint favourite.
Finally, Nolan could have a runner in the Galway 0.0 Handicap on day four of the Festival on Thursday with Metamorpheous, a five-year-old who arrives at Galway off the back of a fifth of 13 finish last time out at Listowel.
