It has been far from the perfect start to 2025 for the Wexford Senior hurling team…
Playing in the top tier of the Allianz Hurling League, the Wexford Senior hurlers have lost their opening three matches of the campaign.
Losses came at the hands of Cork in the opening round, Tipperary in the second clash, and then most recently Kilkenny at Wexford Park.
Wexford Senior hurling manager Keith Rossiter was dealt with a number of blows ahead of the campaign. A trio of Wexford stalwarts retired (Matt O’Hanlon, Dee O’Keeffe, Liam Og McGovern). Along with losing that leadership and experience, Conor McDonald, Shane Reck, Liam Ryan and Kevin Foley were all ruled with injuries. A red-card for Wexford’s key attacker, Rory O’Connor, also saw him miss Wexford’s 2nd round match against Tipperary.
Looking at the players missing, it is no real surprise that Wexford have been struggling in this year’s Allianz League campaign.
One of the few positives from last week’s match against Kilkenny, however, was the return of Oylegate centre-back, Damien Reck.
Looking ahead to Wexford’s next clash against Clare in Ennis this weekend, Wexford fans do have some reasons to be hopeful though.
It is expected that Faythe Harriers clubman and Wexford captain, Lee Chin, will make an appearance against the Banner County, having re-joined the panel on the weekend of the Kilkenny match.

Chin missed pre-season and the opening three games of the Allianz Hurling League as he was travelling and was residing in Australia alongside recent retiree Matthew O’Hanlon.
Chin’s return to the match day panel, or better – the starting fifteen – would add some much needed experience, ariel quality, and leadership to a youthful Wexford side.

Wexford currently sit on bottom of the Allianz Hurling League and they are facing a relegation battle. Their remaining clashes will be against Clare, Galway, and Limerick. Their opponents this weekend – Clare – also haven’t won in the Allianz League, but the All-Ireland champions will be hoping to change that this weekend as they bid to put in a big performance in front of their home crowd.
