Wexford boxer Dean Walsh goes 3-0 in pro boxing ranks

The boxing card, with Galway figher Kieran Molloy vs Kaisee Benjamin as the headline fight, was cancelled last week by the promoters…

Wexford boxer, Dean Walsh, was due to be fighting on that card.

Along with the rest of the boxers, it meant that professional super-welterweight Wexford boxer, Dean Walsh, would not be fighting in at the planned “Galway Rising” boxing card, which was due to take place on Saturday, June 28th, 2025, at Galway’s GAA stadium – Pearse Stadium.

It’s the second time that a card has been cancelled on Walsh when he was in a training camp and ready for his next bout. Likewise, in a previous bout, Walsh was ruled out of the fight one week beforehand due to a “sickening” injury.

But, while still in training camp and ready to fight, Walsh was eager to get back into the ring and add to his 2-0 professional boxing record. Shortly after the announcement that the planned Galway card wasn’t going ahead, Walsh had confirmed that he would be boxing on a professional boxing card held in Spain on Saturday June 21st.

It was the same card that fellow county-man, Dean Gonzalez Furlong, was due to be headlining on the night. Over the past week, both professional Wexford boxers have been training along side each other in the sunny Spain heat, getting the most out of each other as fight night draws closer.

As the fight night drew closer, Dean Gonzalez Furlong unfortunately was informed that his opponent did not board his flight. It meant Gonzalez-Furlong’s headline fight was cancelled, which was a killer-blow for the Wexford man who put in a hard graft during training camp to prepare for the headline bout.

From a Wexford perspective, not all was lost though. Walsh stepped in for fellow county-man Gonzalez-Furlong as the headline bout of the night, making it his first-ever headline show on a professional boxing card.

Wexford town boxer Dean Walsh added another win to his professional record. Walsh fought Spanish man, Bela Istvan Orban, to go 3-0 in the pro-boxing ranks.

It was Walsh’s first fight of the calendar year, but he’ll be happy to get out of the fight unscathed as he quickly moves on to his next fights.

After the fight, Walsh thanked his family, friends, trainers, supporters and sponsors while he also hinted that there is “big news” coming, with a potential professional boxing card in Wexford on the cards in the future too.
