A rising star in Irish athletics, 16-year-old Léa from Killurin is set to earn her second international cap this weekend as she travels to Derby, England, to represent Ireland at the SIAB Schools International Track & Field Championships…
Léa, a student at Loreto Secondary School in Wexford and a member of Bree Athletic Club, has been on an impressive athletic journey.
After collecting All-Ireland medals in long jump and a haul of Leinster honours across hurdles, long jump, and shot putt, she only took up hammer throw in 2023. Since then, her rapid progress has been nothing short of remarkable.
Her silver medal finish at the Tailteann Games secured her place on the Irish team, where she’ll compete against elite athletes from across the UK and Ireland.
As part of its commitment to supporting emerging talent, Bree AC has awarded Léa an international bursary to assist with her trip — a gesture extended to all athletes from the club who earn international honours.
“It’s a small token of recognition for their hard work, dedication, and outstanding achievement,” a spokesperson from Bree AC said.

Credit is also due to her coach, John White, whose guidance has been pivotal in Léa’s development.
Léa now proudly carries the flag for Loreto, Bree AC, Wexford, Leinster, and Ireland on the international stage. The entire community is behind her as she takes the next step in her sporting journey.
