A Wexford County Councillor has welcomed significant Government funding for the county…
Wexford Cllr Robbie Staples has welcomed the proposed Ballynagee Link Road as a vital piece of infrastructure that will help unlock housing, education and sporting development in Wexford Town.
The proposed 1.3-kilometre link road will connect the Ballynagee/Scholars Way Roundabout to the R733 and extend north to the L3016 at Starvehall (Whiterock Hill).
Cllr Staples said the project has the potential to directly unlock lands for 1,950 new homes and support a further 1,715 homes indirectly, helping to address the growing demand for housing in Wexford.
“This is the type of strategic infrastructure investment Wexford needs to support future growth,” said Cllr Staples. “Not only will it facilitate the delivery of thousands of homes, but it will also improve access to and help unlock the planned new SETU campus and support the proposed new Wexford FC stadium.”
With an estimated investment of between €10 million and €20 million, the project complements other significant investments already underway in Wexford, including the Newtown Water Treatment Plant upgrade, the new Rosslare/Killinick 110kV Substation, and Urban Regeneration and Development Fund projects in Wexford Town Centre and Trinity Wharf.
“The Ballynagee Link Road is about much more than transport,” Cllr Staples added. “It is about providing the infrastructure needed to deliver homes, education, sport, jobs and sustainable growth for future generations. This project has the potential to be transformative for Wexford and I will continue to advocate strongly for its delivery,” he told Wexford Weekly.
Meanwhile, North Wexford and Enniscorthy was also awarded transformational infastructure funding this morning.
