The Wexford SHC quarter-finals got underway over the weekend and they certainly didn’t disappoint…
St Martins overcame a poor Buffers Alley team, Oulart The Ballagh defeated the Shelmaliers, Naomh Eanna reached their first semi-final since 1984, while The Rapparees proved their doubters wrong with a strong win over Rathnure.
Although there were many terrific performances of the weekend, the two that ran proceedings for their respective club were St Martins’ Rory O’Connor and Naomh Eanna’s Conor McDonald.
For Naomh Eanna, McDonald returned to his best form finishing with a spectacular tally of 2-04 from play.
McDonald’s second goal claimed considerable attention online, with Wexford GAA uploading a video of the goal to their Facebook page. The catch was good, the commentary was better, but the amount of steps taken to finish the goal was certainly questionable.
In the Facebook comments of the video, some people were in awe of the sublime fielding from the full-forward, but many others condemned the amount of steps taken with some claiming they counted eight or nine.
We love it.
