New Kilkenny Manager Derek Lyng Confirms Backroom Team

Brian Cody recently retired from his role as manager of the Kilkenny Senior Hurling team…

The Kilkenny man will go down as a legend of the game, but their attention had to swiftly turn to find the perfect man to replace him.

On August 4th, they confirmed their new manager and former Kilkenny hurler, Derek Lyng, will be replacing Brian Cody in the role of Kilkenny Senior hurling manager.

Lyng has been ratified on a three-year term following Kilkenny GAA’s County Board meeting on Thursday evening.

Lyng’s selectors and backroom team have since been confirmed and will be ratified at the next Kilkenny GAA County Board meeting.

Derek Lyng’s backroom team will consist of Michael Rice, Peter Barry, Peter O’Donovan and Conor Phelan, while Mickey Comerford and John Murphy will lead the Strenght and Conditioning.

While it is not Wexford news per se, this news will interest the Wexford hurling fans on our site. Wexford fans will be hoping that the Wexford Senior hurlers will be able to maintain their top performances against Kilkenny from recent times.

During this year’s championship in a must-win game in Nowlan Park, Wexford defeated Killkenny which put them through to the All-Ireland qualifiers.
