The Wexford Masters hurling team are through to the All-Ireland final

The Wexford Masters hurling team have been placed straight into the Masters hurling final…

For team members selected, one rule is that players must be over 40-years of age, which in turn sees a lot of legends reeling back the years and playing the game.

The team, managed by Dave Guiney with Gorey’s David Bomber Kennedy and Rapparees clubman Padge ‘Skinner’ Walsh as selectors, enjoyed three wins in the competition to date. They defeated Kildare, Limerick, and most recently Cork in the All-Ireland competition.

Tipperary news outlet, Tipperary Live, has reported today that both Wexford and Tipperary will now battle it out in the final, despite the fact that not all group games were played.

Wexford were originally meant to take on Tipperary in the final group game.

However, with no way back for the other teams to make up the points despite the result, both Tippeary and Wexford – and the Masters Association – have agreed to forego their final group game.

Instead, the game now act as the Masters All-Ireland hurling final.

The Tipperary’s Master Hurlers will have home advantage with the final of the Gaelic Masters Association Hurling Final being confirmed yesterday.

Borris-Ileigh will host both the Championship and Shield finals on Saturday, October 19th, at 4pm, with Wexford travelling to oppose Ger ‘Redser’ O’Grady’s charges.

Eoin Kelly, Shane McGrath, Paul Curran, and Lar Corbett have all featured for the Tipperary Masters hurling team in previous games.

There’s no doubt that the two best teams are through to this year’s final. Even though it’s an away clash for the Wexford Masters, this will not matter too much. All of Wexford’s wins have came on the road and now, they’re just one game away from silverware.
