New Grand Marshals announced for Enniscorthy’s St Patricks Day Parade

It’s less than one week away until St Patrick’s Day…

Last Tuesday, it was revealed that Australian politician, Major Brad Bunting, would be the Grand Marshal for the Enniscorthy St Patrick’s Day Parade — however, those plans switly changed.

Within one day, those plans changed and neither Major Brad Bunting or his delegation from New South Wales in Australia will be attending the Enniscorthy Parade anymore due to the conflict in the Middle East.

The new Grand Marshals for the upcoming St Patrick’s Day Parade in Enniscorthy has been announced.

Slaney Search and Rescue, along with the Flood Victims on the Island Road in Enniscorthy, have been handed the honour of being Grand Marshals for the upcoming parade.

There were calls on social media for the organisers to select Slaney Search & Rescue or the Flood Victims as the Grand Marshals for 2026 — and the organisers have listened.

Slaney Search and Rescue is a voluntary emergency organisation based in Enniscorthy, County Wexford, Ireland. Founded in 1995, it operates along the River Slaney, conducting searches, water rescues, and recovery missions, supporting local authorities and helping protect the community today.

Last month, in February 2026, residents on the Island Road in Enniscorthy faced severe flooding when the River Slaney burst its banks. Homes were inundated, belongings ruined, and families displaced. Many endured sleepless nights, evacuations, and costly repairs as their community struggled to recover.

The flood victims of Enniscorthy showed resilience, courage, and community spirit after devastating floods, while Slaney Search and Rescue volunteers continually risk their safety to protect others. Honouring them as Grand Marshals celebrates bravery, unity, and the strength shown by the community.

Meanwhile, in Gorey, a 17-year old local boxer has been announced as their Grand Marshal for the St Patrick’s Day parade.
