Kiltealy Pop Up Gaeltacht Is A Great Success

Conas atá tú, a chara!

A fantastic evening was had in Bowe’s ‘The Thatch’ pub on Friday night when a pop up Gaeltacht came to Kiltealy.

The night was very well-attended, with a great mix of folk with differing ages and backgrounds gathering together in t he pub to mark the inaugural event.

Bhi an craic go hiontach agus a Lan caint agus comhra idir na daoine trid an Oiche seo! It was fitting that the night was held in the Blackstairs region as many place names and features of interest still exist , ‘as Gaeilge’ in the Mountains.

It felt very special and exciting to sit down with strangers and chat in our native language about all sorts of topics, from Sporting, heritage, music, local attractions and generally getting to know the person beside you. It just felt good! I noticed how beautiful a language it is when spoken well and it weirdly felt more natural than English. Conversation was very friendly, with understanding and encouragement given to everyone in attendance no matter what grade of Irish was on display.

It was great to get a bit of craic out of the person beside you in Irish as well and made the banter probably even funnier than usual, knowing it was in Irish. Next time around promises to be even better craic and anyone who feels like coming down to the next night will receive a big Cead Mile Failte, on what promises to be a fabulous occasion. If people feel like bringing along a Tin whistle, Irish Flute, Accordion, Fiddle or a Bosca they are very welcome to!

Future nights for the Pop up Gaeltacht have been arranged for the last Friday of every month with the next night planned for February 24th from 8pm – 9.30pm at least in Bowe’s, the ‘Thatch Pub’, Kiltealy.

The pub added immensely to the night with great service from friendly staff and cozy surroundings.

Its location is 52.5600 – 6.74640 on Google Maps.
