Wexford Man To Captain Connacht In European Cup This Weekend

Wexford man Paul Boyle will captain Connacht Rugby this weekend…

Connacht will field an almost fully-loaded team as they go in search of a win in Saturday’s European Challenge Cup round of 16 match against Leicester Tigers.

Gorey man Paul Boyle will captain the province in the absence of Jarrad Butler.

The game at the Mattioli Woods Welford Road kicks off at 8pm on Saturday, April 3.

“We had difficult decisions to make across the park with our starting XV. It’s a testament to our squad that we’ve got a really strong bench while others will miss out entirely.

“That’s what you want going into knockout European rugby. It’s no secret that the Connacht record in Europe needs to improve, but this is a group of players that know how to break hoodoos on the road,” said coach Andy Friend.

The game will be televised live on BT Sport 3, with coverage underway from 7.45pm.

Leicester Tigers, who are 4/6, are slight favourites for the clash, while Connact are priced at 11/10. The winner will face either Ospreys or Newcastle Falcons next weekend in a home quarter-final.
